Every 2 years one of sailing’s most infamous and classic events takes place – The Rolex Fastnet Race.

It attracts the best racing sailors and is considered one of the toughest offshore races held around UK waters. This prestigious race has always been extremely demanding but in 2021 the finish line has been moved to Cherbourg – adding nearly 100 extra nm !

Fastnet Rock, Ireland

The Race

Starting from Cowes on the Isle of Wight the fleet races down to the bleak and rugged Fastnet Rock off the south coast of Ireland, once around the Rock, they cross the English Channel towards Cherbourg.  Facing strong tides, fearsome headwinds and at times the full fury of any weather coming in from the Atlantic – this race will push all your skills to the limit and then some !

The Challenge

Despite everything it throws at you it remains extremely popular and there is a limit to the number of boats that are allowed to enter . First Class Sailing are entering a 72ft Yacht into the race and you can be part of the crew.

The entry criteria for the race is fairly strict and includes 300 miles in offshore racing for both the yacht and the crew as a team in the 12 months before the race. This is all included as part of the experience.

The Boat

The boat is just perfect for the race – She was built to sail around the world ! (and has done so twice) and has already completed a number of Fastnets. She is safe and solid, spacious and comfy. She meets all MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) safety Coding requirements.

Down below the yacht is comfortable and has a big airy saloon area, a well-equipped galley and two heads/showers. The sleeping area is made up of compartments with nice snug bunks.
