Bank Holiday Sailing – RYA Courses and Channel Hops

A short but action packed holiday, or spreading your RYA Competent Crew or Day Skipper course over two weekends, either way the bank holidays are perfect as you don’t need to use up any valuable days off work!

And with the Easter break having two bank holidays, you can do a whole course and only need to take one day off work.

Quick sailing breaks let you visit distant shores, perfect for some extended time on the water and putting those important nautical miles under your belt.

Bank Holiday Weekend Channel Hops

Easter Channel Hop (14-17 April)

Starts on the evening of 13 April, departing from Shamrock Quay in Southampton with Cherbourg as the destination. The trip includes night sailing and a distance of at least 120 nautical miles, should you be looking at your Yachtmaster Coastal or Yachtmaster Offshore you could skipper a passage of over 60nm.

Spring Bank Holiday Channel Hop 27-29 May

A little later in the year but also departing from Shamrock Quay in Southampton with Cherbourg as the destination. Starts on the Friday evening of 26th May and is another great opportunity for some night sailing and if your preparing for an RYA Yachtmaster course.

Long Sail to France/Channel Islands (29 April – 3 May)

Another holiday that traverses the spring bank holiday and this involves a 5 day trip to France and the Channel Islands, starting of the evening of 28 April. You’ll get plenty of nautical miles in your log book plus see places like Alderney, Herm, Sark, Guernsey, Cherbourg, St Vaast. We might even have a BBQ on the beach.

Bank Holiday RYA Competent Crew Practical Course

Sailing from Southampton, you’ll stay at a different marina, anchorage or harbour each night and it is ideal if you have done little or no sailing before. Once completed you will become a useful crew member and an asset to anyone you go sailing with. You’ll be sleeping and eating on board (apart from perhaps the odd evening meal out in a pub or restaurant if you choose!) you will learn lots about sailing, life on board and how fun it is.

Bank Holiday RYA Day Skipper Practical Course

If you’ve completed your Competent Crew course then you’ll know that this is the final step before you can charter your own yacht in the Mediterranean. This is a great course for rounding off your skills and gives you great confidence for skippering and taking the helm.

We strongly recommend taking this course over five days or two consecutive weekends. If one of those weekends has a bank holiday, or you take the five over Easter, you’ll be very economical when it comes to taking time off work.
