Antigua to Portsmouth Day 2: Brilliant Caribbean Weather

On their voyage to Portsmouth Harbour from Antigua the crew will learn many new tasks during their Atlantic Adventure along with some amazing sights. This is their first blog at sea…

Crew Blog dated Thursday 10th January 2019.

Two full days out and the crew is happily settling into its three watch pattern with a separate “mother watch” attending to cleaning and catering the Challenger. The night was divided into .three watch of 3 hours each so everyone got some sleep and the joy of seeing a fabulous night sky.

As usual Phosphorescence was evident as we numerous shooting stars. We also saw our first “other vessel”, a large, (or what seemed large) container ship.

At about 7.00am 2 carrs (devices that hold the mainsail to the mast) came loose and required prompt and quite satisfactory running repairs from the professional crew. Otherwise an uneventful sail with brilliant Caribbean weather, dark blue seas and a very content crew.

Another crew member reported sick but already is starting to appear in the galley and will be fine for his shift tomorrow.

A fish was caught this morning on the ships rod, but it coincided with broken carrs and was lost in the confusion.

Mr X (an ex lawyer – you know who he is..)  took his first baking lesson in the galley, preparing a bread accompaniment to the chorizo bean stew, the result were flatter than his enthusiasm but a big step forward in his repertoire, family members beware.
