As the FCS crew head towards St Lucia they cross the mid-Atlantic, celebrate and then get back to sailing Challenger 2. Below is the latest news from the crew plus their position (14:00 7th Dec 2017).
It’s a Swell Kelp
Hello from the middle of the ocean. We’ve crossed cross the halfway point (around 21:00 GMT Tuesday 5th Dec).
Consequently the ship’s time will be adjusted by 2 hours tomorrow. To mark half way a small party will take place after which the clocks will go backwards, keeping the watch system in sync and turning back time so the party never happened.
Today we have sailed through carpets of bright green kelp, floating islands in the ocean swell, quite surreal. The swell is quite variable, giving good photo opportunities, the smiling helm with a wall of water in the background will shortly have a look of surprise on his or her face (no names mentioned!)
Sailing has been quite active east force 5 winds and 4m swell keeping the helm active and the crew busy. Nothing like a 06:00 Gybe to start the day! The crew making sure to screw up a few of the activities, just for the reaction of the first mate!
In the galley preparations are taking place for the party, with creative use of available ingredients to make trifles and chocolate mousse. Special thanks to Laetitia for baking the best bread so far.
Current Position

The crew are making good time and with their steady passage hope to make landfallon… well, why don’t you post on Facebook your guess as to when they will arrive?
