Paradise in the Norwegian Fjords

Paradise in the Norwegian Fjords. Can you spot our mast?

The Norwegian Fjords beckon

As the eclectic crew of Challenger 1 get closer and closer to the Norwegian Fjords the spinnaker gets some quality time out of it’s bag and the cooking improves.

Day 3: Position 200nm SSW Stavanger 13.30 1st June – 11.00 2nd June

“Great adventure yesterday afternoon when we hoisted the spinnaker, which needed all of us to help. It opened successfully and had us going downwind at 8 knots, although it needed great people at the helm –  Sam now delegated to head cleaning duty! All helped in the evening taking it down and laying it below deck in the corridor. We left the late watch to pack it neatly away while we were getting our deserved rest!

Gary, the first mate, was very happy to whip out his sextant and managed to point it in the right direction. He was remarkably accurate –  to less than a mile, clearly honing his skills as an expert navigator.

After Lamb curry (Michelin star 3) it was back up on deck and into the night sky – no more complete darkness but we still had trouble knowing who we were talking too. That didn’t matter anyway as we are all now bonded as a watch  – the skipper, a gap year student (the watch leader), two doctors, a management consultant, a regular at Glastonbury and an investment banker who are all obedient to the commands of our young watch leader!

The morning started with a Norwegian lesson – the first word was obviously beer and then beers and then followed by some more serious words haha!

Vi glede oss og kommer til Norge og snakk om mat, og  preikestolen.
Takk til nest tiden (Thanks until the next time)

Sam and Paul
