Crew Writes Donuts in Their Wake

The variety of weather conditions can be quite remarkable on this voyage from Antigua to Portsmouth. From high winds and 45 degree living to flat seas and a touch of the cold weather we’re experiencing in the upper reaches of the Northern Hemisphere….

Motoring On to Heavy Weather

The wind has eased as predicted however we were able to make more East than first estimated. The decision was taken to switch on the engine at 20:00hrs last night and motor through the light patch.

Current predictions are that we will need to motor for a couple of days to clear the high at which point wind strength will increase towards the end of the week.

There appears to be some heavy weather coming through on Friday so in preparation we will pack away and stow the Stay Sail and rig the Storm Stay today.

Spirits are still high and the crew are enjoying the flatter conditions after 6 days at 45 degrees, this has manifested itself into competitive cooking between watches, the quality of the bread being the deciding factor of success for the days culinary offerings.

The sun is shining although nights are getting cooler, sleeping bags are beginning to appear and the number of people still wearing shorts has significantly reduced.

We will continue to motor for the next 2 days hopefully in the right direction, curiously enough some of the crew are finding it harder to helm whilst motoring than they did sailing.

We had one occasion last night which I can only assume was the helmsman trying to write his name with the wake, including the O.

Nick, Mate, Challenger 2
