Great Britain Take Home 3 Medals in the Olympic Sailing

The Rio Olympics 2016 has been an incredible competition for Great Britain, with an overall position of second place for total number of medals, putting us directly behind the USA.

The Winners Putting Great in Great Britain

Giles Scott wins Gold for Great Britain in the Men’s finn (dinghy) race with Nick Dempsey of Great Britain taking home Silver for the Men’s RS:X (windsurfer) race. The final medal for Great Britain was won by Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark who secured Gold in the Women’s 470 (dinghy) competition. All fantastic results for the 2016 Rio Olympics putting Great Britain in number one position overall for Sailing.

The Olympic Sailing Events

There are multiple sailing events throughout the duration of the Olympic Games, from Men’s laser (dinghy), to Women’s 49er FX (skiff), and Mixed Nacra 17 (multihull). With so many events available we stood a much greater chance of being in medal position, with great contenders in multiple areas.

The GB team gave it everything they had throughout the Preliminary events and especially in the Medal races. It’s clear from the results that their hard work paid off with 3 fantastic medal wins from the team.

Sailing As A Sport

Sailing As A Sport

Sailing, or Yachting as it’s also called, made its Olympic debut in 1900 and has made an appearance in every Games since 1908. With the development of windsurfing, kitesurfing, skiffs and multihulls, the sport has become one of the most popular and competitions such as the Olympics and the America’s Cup have helped break records and create sailing heros.
