This could be you next summer, exploring Greek islands, ancient Croatian towns, turquoise waters, but you could be the skipper! You could be in charge, commanding your crew (family), deciding which bays to drop anchor in for a swim and which harbours to sail to for refreshments (ice cold beer).

Holidays like these may seem like one needs years of experience, but the truth is you can get trained up to a Day Skipper fairly easily and be ready for the Med next summer. This sea was built for Day Skippers. Sunny weather, light winds, no tide – it’s perfect for novice skippers who want an easy ride for their first few charters.

It’s not just about sailing either, there’s warm turquoise water, hot sandy beaches, historic ruins, giving plenty of options for the whole family. But, perhaps the best thing about these holidays is discovering a new island each day. You soon take on the persona of an explorer, letting each day unfold with new adventures. No two days are ever the same, which makes a big difference from spending a week at the same hotel/resort. To enjoy a holiday like this, all you need is your Day Skipper ticket.

Ok, so how do you get your Day Skipper? We’ve broken the process down for you into 3 easy steps/courses:

Step 1: Competent Crew

The Competent Crew course is designed for anyone who has little to no experience of yachts and is fundamental to being on a yacht. There’s no theory, no test. You just go sailing with an expert instructor for 5 days. This is also a good course for your future Mediterranean crew. It’s the easiest course, and the most fun.

Step 2: Day Skipper Theory

The Day Skipper Theory course is on land (London and Southampton) unfortunately, but absolutely essential to being a skipper. You’ll learn the rules of the road and how to navigate, so you know what you’re doing and where you’re going. We run these courses at various convenient locations in central London. You only need to commit one evening per week for 8 sessions.

Step 3: Day Skipper Practical

Back on the water – where you belong! Except, this time you’re calling the shots. You’ll be responsible for commanding the crew, sailing the yacht, mooring alongside – all under the supervision and expert guidance from our experienced instructors.

Now Book your yacht in the Med

You’ve got the ticket, now you need to use it. There’s many different options for finding your dream holiday. We always recommend flotilla holidays for new skippers, as a nice bridge between having a some help and going it alone.

In our office, our staff have years of experience working in the Med and would be happy to advise you on the best options going forward. Get in touch and let us help you get sorted before your summer charter in the Mediterranean.
