Highlights for me – Ben Ainslie’s penultimate race before he went on to win Gold. It was totally gripping.
Besides watching the Olympics, during the summer we ran a competition based on the games. Those taking part had to answer three questions and then their names went into a hat. The name pulled out of the hat on the closing date of the completion won a free sailing course from the team here at First Class Sailing. Many people answered correctly. However, if you were wondering if you had answered correctly the answers are listed below:
1. Where was the Olympic Sailing 2012 being held?
Answer was Portland or Weymouth
2. How many Gold medals has Ben Ainslie won to date?
Answer was 3 until 5th August 2012, when he won his 4th.
3. Where are the 2016 Olympic Games being held?
Answer Rio, Brazil.
Pulled out of the hat on 30th August 2012 the winner was …
Louise Milner
Louise was delighted to win and is looking forward to joining First Class Sailing for her sailing course soon.
The next big event is the Vendee Globe starting on 10th November 2012 from Les Sables d’Olonne in France. This is a single handed race around the world and happens every four years. It is more about getting around the course in one piece than anything else. In 2008 30 boats started the Race but only 11 crossed the finish line.
If you would like to experience the thrills of racing for yourself, we still have spaces available for the Fastnet Race in August 2013. First Class Sailing are entering with a 72ft round the world racer.
If you are inspired by any of these events to take up sailing for yourself, please see our page on Sailing Courses for Beginners on this website. These courses are run from both the East Coast and South Coast for the practical sailing courses with the addition of London for the theory courses.
