If you’ve never taken a shorebased sailing theory course before, you may be curious as to what they entail and how you can take them in your office. Here are the details about the London Shorebased Sailing Courses on offer at First Class Sailing.

Available Shorebased Theory Courses

There’s a huge range of RYA-approved theory courses to choose from, all of which will provide valuable tuition which can be applied in the practical environment of sailing (and is in some cases necessary for progressing to practical courses). The range includes:

Day Skipper Theory Course

This course teaches all the basics of navigation for beginner and novice sailors, including (but not limited to) working out a course to steer accounting for the tide, meteorology, nautical terminology, measuring position and how to use electronic charts.

Yachtmaster Theory Course

Also known as the Yachtmaster Coastal Skipper Theory course (here’s the practical course), this is aimed at those who have already taken the Day Skipper Theory course and expands upon the navigation principles that Day Skipper graduates will already know.

You’ll learn how to plan and navigate coastal and offshore routes safely, and gain all the necessary knowledge to take on the practical Coastal Skipper course.

Ocean Yachtmaster Theory Course

If you’re ready to tackle ocean navigation, this course is for you! The Ocean Yachtmaster Theory examines astro-navigation; you’ll learn how to fix your position using a sextant as well as other important ocean navigation disciplines.

VHF Radio Course

Also known as a Short Range Certificate Radio Course, this specialist supplementary course is designed to help you get to grips with operating a VHF communication radio and obtain your VHF Radio Licence (a necessity if you want to charter a yacht).

But what if I don’t have the time to come to First Class Sailing’s offices or go to one of the venues where a course is being held?

Don’t worry – we can come to you! Since the shorebased courses are entirely theory-centric, they can be completed in almost any venue. If you wish, you can arrange for the course of your choice to be taught in your London office in sessions after work – ideal if you want the convenience of having the course on your doorstep and haven’t the time to travel elsewhere after a day in the office.

We’ll come to your workplace armed with some great course materials, and go through the course with you step by step over a series of evenings.
