Pulpit Rock in Norway

Pulpit Rock is up there!

The Norway crew have arrived!  Here is the latest instalment of their adventure.

5th June

“Yesterday (Saturday)we arrived in Stavanger, in the driving rain, and after a bit of a night’s sleep we spent the day exploring the town and its famous petroleum museum. We had a great crew meal and enjoyed the local musical entertainment while trying to make the expensive not-quite-a-pint last as long as possible.

This morning a few of us went out to forage for the world’s most expensive cinnamon buns, and we managed to find them somewhat far away due to the bank holiday – they were well worth the effort (and the £50!).

We then sauntered over to Tau on the engine which was a very pretty journey, where we then split into 2 teams – Team Pulpit and Team Challenger. Team Pulpit then took bus and hiked up to the top of the stunning Pulpit Rock – which was a challenging hike dodging crowds of cruise tourists but the view was well worth it – whilst Team Challenger motored up Lysefjord to appear beneath said Pulpit Rock. We even brought a VHF with us to coordinate the sail past and get a good photo. After regrouping we motored to a nearby anchorage on Finnøy where we enjoyed a delicious spaghetti Bolognese cooked by Gary the mate ‘#firstclasssailing #garysaidso’ and finally got rid of the smelly cheese that has been torturing the crew, and came up with some very lame cheese jokes.

Team Challenger left Tau to motor south avoiding islands and the porpoises before heading into Lysefjord. Once again this year we were able to negotiate our way under the bridge and ensuing power cables to appear below the rock for the Team Pulpit crew. Some crew members took time to catch up on some sleep before returning to Tau to pick up the rest of the crew.”
