Competent Crew Course (Lymington Stop)

Our RYA Competent Crew course leaves from Southampton, and includes sailing into Lymington, just a twenty mile journey away. It’s an ideal hands-on introduction for beginners and so makes the perfect choice if you have limited sailing experience.

Not only will the Competent Crew Course take you to Lymington, but also several other stops in the Solent including Portsmouth, Cowes, Yarmouth, Beaulieu, and Hamble to name but a few.

This Solent-based sailing course spans five days, and covers personal safety, seamanship and helmsmanship to equip you with the skills to become a valuable crew member (read the syllabus). Our experienced instructors will guide you through the basics and give you the confidence to navigate the waters between Southampton, Lymington, and the Isle of Wight… and beyond!

Over the five days you will live and dine on the yacht and each night we aim to dock at a new marina, harbour, or anchorage, which can include Lymington. It’s a beautiful Georgian market town on the southern edge of the New Forest, sitting on the western end of the Solent. The town is globally renowned as a sailing resort and has several boutique shops, good pubs, and excellent restaurants.

Lymington is surrounded by outstanding natural beauty, and this is clearly visible as you sail into the harbour. To the north are the ancient woodlands and heathlands of the New Forest. To the west are miles of coastal nature reserve including Hurst Spit which is a SSSI.
