Butterflies mid Atlantic – well, just one actually – A First Class Sailing Blog

Whilst watching a pod of fin whales the crew of Challenger 2 were treated to something else, also rather special.

We are scooting along at a decent rate of knots and it feels a bit odd to think we are almost half way across the Atlantic.  There’s been a lot of chatter today about what the Ocean looks like/peoples expectations.  The flying fish keep buzzing past, but it’s a little bit strange to think there’s a whole heap of life below us.  If you’ve been following the blog you’ll know we saw some whales yesterday, they are sleek and majestic as they cruise along.  However, just as the Whales played alongside a tiny orange and brown butterfly appeared out of nowhere!  It felt fairly symbolic to me, sometimes we can get caught up with what everyone’s involved in that we miss the beauty of some small moments.   There’s been a lot of time to stop and think here, allow your mind to wander and be creative, hopefully I’ll carry this forward in 2020.  Well, best get back to it, have to continue with my mother watch duties today, feeding everyone and keeping the place ship shape, along with Paul.  It may sound like an easy day, but trust me, with cooking on a gimble and navigating from the galley to the saloon (all of a foot) is proving challenging with boat surfing along.

Love to all, Becs xxx
