Marco and Hugo-An emotional roller coaster in the grips of the south easterlies
1,822 views | December 2nd, 2011I didnt have the easiest of starts, mentally, I think the stress in
getting things ready in Cape Town wore me out and I have to admit to a
very tough first 48 hours. We have all been there in nasty weather
thinking why the hell we’re doing it and when you are tired and hungry the
answer does not always come easy.
Hugo has been absolutely brilliant in spotting my mood and literally
sending me to bed like a moody child, and a few exchanges of emails with
my girlfriend Ella back in London put all things in perspective letting me
breath new fresh air, I feel almost a bit embarrassed now but we are here
also to find out more about ourselves, our limits and fears.
The wind is dropping and we’ll have a chance to regroup, attend to the
damage we had to one sail during the night, we will need to climb the mast
and retrieve one of the haliards that detatched itself from the hoisted
staysail leaving us with a tricky situation to handle as usual in the
midst of 30+ knot dark night…
The road to Wellington is still very long and we’ll be back in racing mode
as soon as all the above is sorted, including more food and more sleep.
