Hands On
There is a massive 'hands on' practical element to the course and great diagnostics. It has really helped me with my own boat electrics which I am now rewiring. First Class Sailing is a school where you come away with a lot more than a certificate.

What Sailors Say About Us

Everything from shore power to internal wiring, connections, potential hazards, NMEA networking etc
In two days we covered all the basic elements of a boat’s electrical and electronic systems. It was partly theory but mostly practical as the instructor went through everything from shore power to internal wiring, connections, potential hazards, NMEA networking etc. We made crimps, connections, fault finding, installing units to the fuse box and electronic panel, setting up gps units etc. For both courses, the instructors were extremely knowledgeable, patient and were able to explain topics to all levels of attendants. I highly recommend these courses and First Class Sailing in general (I took the Diesel Engine course from them years ago) for anyone who wants to be self sufficient, or at least communicate better with technicians that they call in for repairs or fault finding.

Useful
Very good course useful to anyone wanting to know how to diagnose electrical problems on their boat. Course covered basic power systems, navigation electronics and battery management, with hands on practical exercises to teach how to test and diagnose faulty circuits. The teaching was clear and used a published handbook as a basis. Facilities were great, and a comfortable training room with nearby cafe and restaurant choices for lunchtime food. Booking was easy online, and the cost reasonable. Would recommend.

Clear instruction
I signed up for the 2-day yacht electrical and marine course. I own my own boat and wanted a better understanding of electrics and how I could self diagnose and where appropriate fix. Course was excellent. Clear instruction, professionally delivered, with excellent practical hands on experience. Small group of 10 people was ideal. Highly recommended.

Confident and knowledgeable instructor
Confident and knowledgeable instructor who explained the theory very well but the impressive part was the hands on practical experience. Didn't make me a Yacht electrician but I know how to find electric and network faults. All in all, a weekend well spent.
