Round the Island Race

What is the Round the Island Race?

Every year in June, over 16,000 sailors, from Olympic gold medallists and world champions to amateur crews and those trying their hand at racing for the first time, compete in this unique yacht race around the Isle of Wight.

The largest yacht race in the world, the Round the Island Race is a magnificent spectacle and one that you will never forget!

You can be part of the action. No experience is necessary as full training will be given.

"The race itself for me was tremendous - Perfect amount of wind and plenty of sunshine. Sail back on Sunday was relaxing - wind had dropped. Skipper excellent. Confident and clearly in control of the boat and the race."

On Board Storage

You want to keep it pretty minimal. You should put it in a soft bag [not hard suitcase].

On board the Challengers you will be assigned your berth, which is a snug, comfortable pipe cot, and large cubby hole which holds one plastic box for your kit.

Berths are located in the aft Watch Cabins, which you will share with other crew members.

You only have a small space for personal kit; you will be allocated 1 plastic (curver) box with a dimension of 50cm long x 40cm wide x 27 cm high – about the size of a flight bag – and about the same space again for extra storage.
