Now, mainly thanks to Phesheya who forced us to rethink our route when they broke away from the pack and dipped to the south, we are enjoying idyllic sailing conditions and most importantly have climbed up the ranks against Cessna who, on the other hand, have been quite unlucky, the high moved faster to the north east than initially forecast meaning they could not stay above and ahead of the system and have yesterday been forced to dip south to skirt the centre of the high to the west, this is costing them many precious miles and we are thankful to the albatrosses, deep sea creatures and fair wind gods for this turn of events.

The route to cape town is still relatively long, 2 Fastnets to go approximately, 1200 miles of open ocean. When I look at the wave crests lifting our stern before a surf in the chill of the freezing Southern Ocean night, gently but firmly, I know who’s daddy down here, our priority is to ensure we do not break anything and safely steer our bow to Cape Town, where coincidentally is where steak, beer and a hot showers are!

Holding onto this third place would be an extremely welcome bonus. Thank you for the many messages of congratulations received today, but the fat lady has not sung yet so you’ll
have to bear with us a little longer.

We received many emails asking what had happened of Clubby so we thought an update was due. After Giusy the African Egret unceremoniously dumped him, preferring to die rather than spend another day in his company, Clubby has thought hard about his ways and antics and I guess had a bit of a mid life crisis in the solitary confinement of a vessel at sea which all seems a little pathetic to me. We are not sure about his new friends either, odd looking fellas, lacking nerve and conviction. I think Clubby
needs to hit downtown Cape Town and he’ll be back to his old self rather than turn into a boring damp squid, what do you think?

Another round of massive thank you’s for the donations still coming in towards our racing funds, we will be able to foot the bill for repairing the expensive wind instruments we lost in a squall 10 days ago and have more than enough left for a few big steaks and pints of beer in Cape Town.

If you wish to be part of the growing number of people who are supporting our cash strapped campaign visit
