Online Spanish Language Class for Sailors

This is an online live and interactive Spanish language course aimed specifically at sailors and the language you will need when sailing in and around Spanish waters.

Translate the local Spanish weather forecast, converse with an engineer about a leaky salt water pump. Arrive in port knowing how to talk to the marina staff who offer to take your lines or the chap at the fuel dock. Be confident in asking a passing fishing boat for some sardines.

This is a live online Spanish language course of 6 x one and a half hour sessions with the focus on what you might need as a sailor visiting Spain. You will brush up on your existing Spanish. It will be very interactive with lots of conversation. All from the comfort and bug free safety of your own home.

The course is aimed at a range of existing abilities. You need to have an understanding and reasonable command of the present tense, as a minimum. After you have signed up you will be sent a ‘test your level’ link. We will gauge your level and depending on how many sign up and the variation in levels we may split the group into two classes..

The course will be run online through Zoom. On your PC/MAC/Mobile you will be able to see the instructor, any slides she might show, there is a white board function and you can ask her any questions. It is just like being in the classroom.

The teacher is a native and qualified Spanish teacher for adults (CLTA - Certificate in Language Teaching for Adults). She has been teaching Spanish for the last 8 years at Spanish House London, with a strong focus on tailoring the lessons for specific purposes (Spanish for Business, Spanish through Art, Spanish & Cinema, etc). She likes to adapt the lessons to her students' needs and requirements, and create bespoke content to teach what they find useful. She follows a communicative approach to the language, meaning that you will be learning Spanish for real life situations, in an immersive manner, with engaging activities.

She has pretty much completed all courses in the RYA syllabus (at least the classroom-based ones!) and their equivalent in the Spanish Sailing System.
