Golden Vanity was built in 1908. Down below she has all the modern comforts you would expect of a boat these days but on deck she is all tradition with block and tackle and tanned sails.

Falmouth Classics has grown since it's inception in 1987 to be one of the largest annual classic sailing events.

Falmouth Town
Onshore there’s plenty more to entertain. Enjoy the International Sea Shanty Festival, with 26 venues around the town and plenty of traditional Cornish pubs serving great ale, rum and grub! Cobbled streets, Pop up maritime stalls, traditional crafts and plenty of maritime atmosphere to soak up.
Falmouth is Cornwall’s maritime capital, with great sailing in Falmouth Bay and the Carrick Roads. The picturesque town and harbour become even more vibrant, with this bustling boating bonanza! But you can also experience sheltered river creeks, lovely harbours and ancient woodlands, a truly stunning coastline.
Built in 1908 Golden Vanity and is very different from our other more
modern yachts - although she does have all mod cons! And all the
principles of sailing are exactly the same.
Golden Vanity is 53ft overall and 39ft on deck. Her beam is 12ft and her draft 7ft. Her pine decks are wide and spacious with high bulwarks. There are plenty of places to sit, relax and watch the world go by. For more information on Golden Vanity's past have a look here.
She is wooden and has a gaff rig - so her main sail has four sides to it and a wooden spar on the top edge. She has no winches and is sailed using traditional rope handling techniques.
A comfy number for cruising is 5 or 6 plus the skipper and mate. You will enjoy being an active member of a traditional crew.
The accommodation is arranged into bunks and there is little opportunity for segregating sexes.
No level of experience is needed to join this trip and the crew. All that is required is a willingness to get hands-on!
You need Teamwork to sail Golden Vanity and unlike modern yachts, there are no winches and so raising and lowering the sails is all about using traditional seamanship techniques. Our experienced skipper and mate will show you the ropes.
For more experienced sailors Golden Vanity offers you the chance to add to your knowledge by sailing a gaff rigger and with the helpful instruction and guidance of our instructor you will learn new techniques.
