RYA Day Skipper Course

 

 

 

If you have already done Competent Crew or are at Competent Crew level then you can do the RYA Day Skipper practical course but you need to have done the Day Skipper Shorebased course already or have navigational knowledge to the equivalent level.  The RYA Day Skipper practical course is about learning to Skipper a yacht.   It is often the minimum standard required by charter companies to charter a boat. There is not time on the practical course to learn all the navigation skills required to skipper a yacht hence you either need to know these or have done the Day Skipper theory course in advance.

 

The RYA Day Skipper practical course is a 5 day course. Like the Competent Crew course it can be carried out over two weekends or 5 consecutive days.

The course covers preparation for sea, safety, navigation, rules of the road, maintenance, pilotage, yacht handling, passage making, victualling and all that might be considered good seamanship.
