Learn to use a Sextant

 

Every wondered how to navigate by the sun, moon and stars? Follow in the footsteps of Drake and Captain Cook. The mysteries of ancient mariners will be revealed.

 

If you fancy having a go with a sextant or have taken the Yachtmaster or Ocean Theory course or even taught yourself, this weekend is ideal as both an introduction and as a refresher. All are welcome.

 

The course involves sailing along the south side of the Isle of Wight and back up through the Needles. So once the sun sets you're still in for an enjoyable sailing weekend.

 

If you have your own sextant bring it along. You can compare the pros and cons of different makes ranging from the very basic through to the proper thing. The course will cover initial sextant checks, meridian passage, sun sights, star planning, compass checks and whatever else can be squeezed in.

 

Learn in a small group with an expert Ocean Yachtmaster Instructor. These weekends offer a practical hands on experience, a great way to get some practice in on a sextant or find out if it's a subject you'd like to take further.
