The Round the Island Race 2026 showed the Solent at its absolute best \u2014 steady breeze, sunshine from start to finish and that brilliant mix of organised chaos and pure excitement that makes the day so special. Our two First Class Sailing crews embraced all of it. Tactical calls, teamwork, big smiles and a huge effort from everyone on board made this year\u2019s race one to remember.<\/p>\n

2026 RTI Race fleet<\/p><\/div>\n

This year we entered \u201cChallenger 4\u201d and \u201cVenti Secundis\u201d, and both boats put in fantastic performances across the 50NM course.<\/p>\n

With an unusual easterly breeze, the fleet powered down the West Solent under bright, colourful spinnakers \u2014 a brilliant spectacle for anyone watching from on and off the water. \u00a0As they rounded the Needles and began to turn into wind the tacking began until they had a clear run up the east side of the Island and back up East Solent to Cowes.<\/p>\n

Challenger 4, a Challenger 72, completed the race in 10 hours, 43 minutes and 36 seconds, securing 32nd in class and 307th overall. A superb result for a crew who worked relentlessly from the start line to the finish. \u00a0Round the south side of the Island the team choose to go further south and minimised their tacks before doing a long run up the east coast.<\/p>\n

Our Delphia 40, Venti Secundis, crossed the line in 11 hours, 12 minutes and 8 seconds, finishing 19th in class and 451st overall. The crew delivered a calm, controlled race. Choosing to hug the Island closer than C4 did, Venti had a run of short tacks from Saint Catherine\u2019s Point until the wind angle favoured a nice run up the east coast.<\/p>\n

A special shout\u2011out also goes to Jake, our VP, who completed the race aboard Donald Searle in support of the Ella Dawson Foundation<\/a> and the Rona Sailing Project<\/a>. A fantastic effort for two charities doing important work.<\/p>\n
