{"id":7176,"date":"2025-06-11T10:18:38","date_gmt":"2025-06-11T10:18:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.firstclasssailing.com\/blog\/?p=7176"},"modified":"2025-06-11T10:18:38","modified_gmt":"2025-06-11T10:18:38","slug":"to-the-channel-islands-and-back-on-a-challenger-72-yacht","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.firstclasssailing.com\/blog\/to-the-channel-islands-and-back-on-a-challenger-72-yacht\/","title":{"rendered":"To The Channel Islands and back on a Challenger 72 yacht"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The following is a short account from the skipper of the Challenger Yacht we sailed to the Channel Islands and back in June.<\/p>\n<p>Ship\u2019s Captain\u2019s Log of the good ship Challenger 4 on a 5 day trip from Portsmouth to the Channel Islands in June.<\/p>\n<p>3 June 2025<\/p>\n<p>Deck all prepped.\u00a0 Just some pasties and beans between us and an adventure into the gale.\u00a0 8 POB &#8211; 4 tall ships and 4 FCS (who all look very fit and capable!!).<\/p>\n<p>Current plan is to play in Solent for the afternoon, before heading through the Needles with the evening tide.\u00a0 Target St Peter Port, Guernsey.\u00a0 ETA mid morning Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5710\" src=\"https:\/\/www.firstclasssailing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/challenger.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"542\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.firstclasssailing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/challenger.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.firstclasssailing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/challenger-300x163.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.firstclasssailing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/challenger-768x416.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>4 June<\/p>\n<p>CH4 happily alongside the floating pontoon in Guernsey.\u00a0 Everyone tired but happy after an interesting crossing.\u00a0 Wind between 4 and 34 knots, flat calm to the Race in full flood, a great chilli con carne and a little, but not too much seasickness.<\/p>\n<p>Now off to explore the fleshpots of St Peter Port.\u00a0 We will be here overnight tonight before some exploring tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>5 June<\/p>\n<p>After a few of our number ventured off for a swim at the local sea water lido (led by Hugo, who else!!) we are sitting down to brunch.<\/p>\n<p>Passage planning then a drizzly walk around the town is planned before a lunchtime departure for Alderney.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7177\" src=\"https:\/\/www.firstclasssailing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-05-08-at-20.05.57-3.jpeg\" alt=\"Braye Harbour\" width=\"1179\" height=\"663\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.firstclasssailing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-05-08-at-20.05.57-3.jpeg 1179w, https:\/\/www.firstclasssailing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-05-08-at-20.05.57-3-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.firstclasssailing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-05-08-at-20.05.57-3-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.firstclasssailing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-05-08-at-20.05.57-3-768x432.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1179px) 100vw, 1179px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>6 June<\/p>\n<p>Still raining down here in the wild south, but everyone still in excellent spirits.\u00a0 \u00a0Its a bit grim for too much exploring, so we plan to head off in 30 minutes or so for our downwind dash back to Gunwharf.\u00a0 ETA this evening.<\/p>\n<p>2150<\/p>\n<p>CH4 safely alongside GWQ.\u00a0 A lovely breezy crossing from Alderney followed by a delicious thai red curry.<\/p>\n<p>7 June<\/p>\n<p>CH4 finishing our adventure with a short motor tour this morning to watch the start of the Round the Island, and cheer on our fellow Challengers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following is a short account from the skipper of the Challenger Yacht we sailed to the Channel Islands and back in June.
