At some point in an Atlantic voyage the romance of the journey will inspire a crew member to put pen to paper and create some poetry. Marsh’s poem didn’t come with a title so our working one is…<\/p>\n

The Challenge<\/h2>\n

Bruce, our watch leader wants to set me a task, he said:
\n\u201cMarsh \u2013 I\u2019ve got a question that I\u2019m burning to ask\u201d
\nHe said \u201cI\u2019d like to see a blog that uses some lyrics
\nThat Bev and crew are singing, and that conjures up spirits
\nOf the dark desert highway, cool wind in your hair,
\nAnd other ocean songs in the fresh sea air.
\nPut some words about your life jacket going pop
\nAnd how you fiddled with your dongle that was dry as a mop
\nMake sure that you reference the lunches on the hop
\nAnd watching Kirstie out on the pole for the spinnaker drop\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHey Bruce\u201d I responded, \u201cI can give it a try, if you\u2019ll
\nBuy me some Pitons on the other side.
\nI love a free beer or two, and some fruity rum punch
\nWe can have them over roti at our beach front lunch\u201d<\/p>\n

Bruce was steady at the helm for the four hour watches
\nWaves were rolling shifty, bash, blurp, gonna need your galoshes
\nThe crew were rolling slowly through each group like a tribe
\nDoing our best to prevent an accidental gybe
\nThat\u2019s no guff for Ricky cause he shoots up the mast,
\nReplacing rivets and clips at Olympic fast<\/p>\n

Since we\u2019re making steady time now, doing well in our class,
\nWe weren\u2019t put off by oceans waters that\u2019re as calm as glass
\nThe Yankees brought down on deck and tied up with line
\nWith the spinnaker clipped at the ready we were feeling fine
\nYou can see the pride on Ricky\u2019s face as Kirstie climbs out the pole
\nChamonix in her mind as she digs deeper in her ocean soul
\nThere is so much in this girl that you\u2019ve gotta like
\nAs she dangles over the seas, in her teeth is the spike<\/p>\n

The guy flies free and the letter box is full
\nTeamwork is the key and it\u2019s pull pull pull
\nMatch the two clews, down the hatch with the sail
\nRun the tapes to the ends just as quick as you\u2019re able
\nInterrupted by some dolphins before the bag is packed
\nIt\u2019s been a long lovely day and we\u2019re feeling whacked
\nBruce is looking for some dolphins and he\u2019s forgotten the request
\nBut the blog is finished now, and I hope I\u2019ve passed the test.<\/p>\n

And as a bonus<\/strong><\/p>\n

On a yacht named Challenger Four
\nWas a crew that you\u2019d grow to adore
\nSome tall and some small, Enthusiasts all
\nBut one had a really loud snore<\/p>\n

With a run of near half of the miles
\nYou can see their faces light up with smiles
\nIt\u2019s a party tomorrow, with a great deal of sorrow
\nThere\u2019s no booze to light up their dials<\/p>\n
