The Day Skipper theory course is all classroom based and assumes little or no prior experience of sailing a yacht. We will teach all the theory of navigation (including use of GPS and electronic charts), meteorology, collision regulations and safety needed to skipper a yacht.
Ideally the Day Skipper theory course should be followed by a Day Skipper practical aboard one of our yachts. On completion of the practical course you will be qualified to charter and skipper a yacht. You may need to take a practical Competent Crew course before taking the Day Skipper practical course.

The Coastal Skipper Yachtmaster Offshore shorebased course is a more advanced course in navigation and meteorology. This course is ideal for Coastal Skipper practical and Yachtmaster Offshore candidates.
Although some time is devoted to revision of the basic principles, you will probably have difficulty keeping up if you haven’t already mastered the subjects covered in the Day Skipper course syllabus.

The Ocean Yachtmaster theory course is a course in astro-navigation and worldwide meteorology which also reveals the mysteries of the sextant. It assumes a knowledge of all subjects covered in the other shorebased courses.
For centuries sailors have guided their ships across the oceans by celestial navigation or nautical astronomy. On the Ocean Yachtmaster theory course we will teach you how to fix your position by observing the sun, moon, stars and planets. For the modern sailor it is not only a fascinating art but essential when crossing oceans as back up to the modern and much relied upon electronic navigation.
We can also help arrange the 600 mile qualifying passage for those wanting the full Yachtmaster Ocean certificate.
