Challenger 3 Crew ready race

Since April the Challenger 3 crew have been training, taking courses and bonding into a tight unit ready to take on next week’s adventure in the Rolex Fastnet Race.

For the sailing followers and armchair admirals once the start is over the race continues online as each boat can be tracked on an interactive map where the mini battles between each sailing class can be played out.

Since 2013 the links have been updated and RORC have this new page for people to use: http://www.rolexfastnetrace.com/Spectators/spectator-area-overview.html

For First Class Sailing’s Challenger 3 crew they will be competing with three other Challenger boats from Tall Ships Limited. A race within a race!

“The banter between the crews is slowly building,” said Tall Ships Sales Manager, Richard Lloyd-Williams. “They’ve been competing in training races since April but as the race is so close the competitive edge is starting to show.”

“It’s the most famous off-shore races,” he continued, “and all the sailors will be wearing this experience as a badge of honour. They’ve trained hard, done their courses and now we’ll see how they perform.”

For Charlie Tulloch, owner of First Class Sailing, the RYA courses play a vital part. “You can’t compete in this race unless you know how to sail and have had some good training. The courses we run give people the skills and confidence to take part in historic events such as this.”

Yellow Brick 3

All competitors in the Rolex Fasnet race are tracked using the Yellowbrick tracker. It works anywhere on Earth and ‘wakes up’ every 15 minutes to obtain a position using the GPS satellite network. It transmits that position back to an online map, which friends and families and sailing fans will be studying avidly whilst the race is on.

To follow Challenger 3’s progress during the Fastnet Race, visit Yellowbrick live Race Tracker and in the ‘Teams’ menu select IRC CK and you will see all four Challenger teams.
