The Chart Plotter and Radar Course is essential training if you intend to navigate while out at sea. The principle function of a chart plotter and radar are to assist us in navigating and avoiding collisions. These days it is rare for a yacht not to have a chart plotter on board. In recent years such navigational instruments have become a part of many navigators toolkits. The correct use of them is essential particularly when they incorporate radar. The collision regulations say you must use all available means to avoid a collision - that means if you have a radar on board you need to know how to use it properly.
This 1 day Chart Plotter and Radar Course focuses on how to use the chart plotter and in particular the radar functions on the multifunction display. Radar is an invaluable tool for assessing potential collision risks and confirming that any avoiding action taken has been successful. In order to achieve this it is essential to interpret the picture correctly, otherwise it is possible to cause a problem where none previously existed (a radar induced collision!).
This course is not intended to be a substitute for the RYA Radar Course.
Equipment includes a Raymarine E120 multi-function display per person for hands on use during the course.
